New International Studies Programme

Some of the world’s foremost thinkers and activists, who have been working for decades towards bringing about a new ecological paradigm, will soon be leading courses at Crystal Waters Permaculture Village.

Crystal Waters is internationally recognised as a leading centre of ecologically sustainable development. As such it is a perfect location for these courses, providing participants with a direct and holistic experience of living in an emerging eco-village. The courses will offer an integrated balance of theory, practice and reflection. The eco-centre currently being developed by GEN at Crystal Waters will be a state of the art venue and a learning experience in itself.

This new International Ecological Studies Program is an initiative of Morag Gamble and Evan Raymond of Sustainable Futures, Crystal Waters. They are working in partnership with others such as Philip Booth of LearnScapes Australia, GENOA, and the International Society for Ecology and Culture (UK, USA, India) to create an exciting line-up of courses.

Morag and Evan have recently returned from teaching in Northern Italy and the UK where they met with many people to lay further groundwork for this program. They have formed links between this program and many established centres and leading organisations around the world including Schumacher College (England), The Centre for Human Ecology (Scotland), The Center for Ecoliteracy (USA), and the Global Eco-village Network (GEN)

The international scholars who have already agreed to lead courses here are: Helena Norberg-Hodge (Alternative Nobel Peace Prize recipient and ounding member of GEN), Stephan Harding (Gaian ecologist), and from the Center for Ecoliteracy - Fritjof Capra (physicist/author) and David Orr (eco-design and education). Many leading thinkers, eco-designers and activists from Australia are also being approached to contribute to future programs. Max Lindegger will be contributing to each of the courses currently scheduled. It is planned that there will be at least two residential courses a year. A series of lectures will also be launched.

The first course scheduled is in June 2001: Designing with Ecology in Mind led by David Orr (USA) with local contributions from Max Lindegger, Morag Gamble, Evan Raymond, Philip Booth and others.
