I was born in New Zealand and my background is in IT project management. It has taken me to such diverse places as Weipa, Auckland, London and now to Cairns. Garth and I bought a rural residential block in Kuranda in 2003 and planned to semi-retire here. While on a tour of earth-built homes in New Zealand during 2010, I visited an urban co-housing neighbourhood, Earthsong Eco neighbourhood, built in rammed earth and based loosely on permaculture principles. This neighbourhood seemed to have all the things I had been looking for. Research has confirmed my initial sense of this being a great movement. So we've decided to invite others to join us on this journey towards creating a smaller more beautiful space for living, lessening our environmental footprint, looking forward to a future reducing consumption and costs, sharing resources more effectively, enjoying shared meals, shared gardens, having space for fun, laughter, exercise and retreat, working cooperatively to support each other and our wider community, a safe space for children to play and grow, all without having to leave Kuranda.
