ISEES Ecovillage

ISEES Ghana is a living and learning center that provides innovative energy and environmental solutions and technologies for ecovillages, traditional and transitional communities to transform into sustainable communities.

We train sustainable leaders in sustainable energy solutions such as biogas, clean cookstoves, solar PV for lighting, heating, water pumping for irrigation and community water supply systems, waste water harvesting and purification systems among others

Ndem is a community in the inner country of the ‘Bassin Arachidier’ of Senegal, the Peanut Growing basin of the Sahel region http://www.ndem.info/ . The area suffered rapid desertification and soil loss due to the climatic changes combined with the extensive monoculture of peanut that was once introduced by the French for export to its other territories. The rapid exodus reached its peak with the drought conditions in the 1980s that hit most of West Africa.

Efforts to create sustainable human settlements and ecovillages have been recognized by the government of Ghana. Initiated by a dynamic group of sustainability leaders, Ghana Ecovillage network was formed in 2012 and Incorporated in January 14, 2013 and given the permit to commence operations on 22nd January 2013.

GEN Ghana has evolved over the years since 2013.
GEN Ghana is a strong national network with active membership of about 120,
There has been 2 Ecovillage Design Education Courses (EDEs) organized at the Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) and the Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI) with about 70 participants trained.
GEN Ghana has also hosted 3 National conferences and also hosted the 5th African Ecovillage Conference in December 2016.
There is an Active NEXTGEN Youth promoting ecovillage strategies and influencing policies at their district and national levels.
GEN Ghana is open for cooperation with other national networks, ecovillage projects, volunteers and interns who will like to partner. There is an active group. Thanks to GEN International and GEN Denmark (LOES) for their support in building GEN Ghana

Sos environment is a lab within Ngaparou ecovillages which incubates many projects, so the targets are permaculture, research on human and animal food and renewable energy.
In Ngaparou we are trying to bring to the population through the results of work done in SOS lab all what they need to make the transition from the stage they are to an ecovillage.
We have defined 3 steps in the transition from traditional design to ecovillage design. These steps bring competition spirit in the minds. The highest is the 3rd step wherease all communities want to be on the highest step.

The project started when they were looking around and discovered that the mangrove were disappearing so they went to the elders to ask what caused that, and if was a natural or human cause. The answer they got was that it was mainly a human impact. The people were cutting the mangrove for fuel and building which also read the high salination of their land.

There are a broad range of workshops and services available to visitors.

African Regional Aquaculture Centre

African Regional Aquaculture Centre

ARAC is involved in fisheries and aquaculture research, development and training. ARAC is affiliated to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) for the award of Master of Science (MSc) and Post graduate Diploma (PGD) in Aquaculture. Hands-on training programmes for farmers across the aquaculture value chain is a regular feature in the ARAC curriculum.
