Saraswati Ahimsa Vana is a beautiful project situated at the foot of the Llanganates national park in the Amazon rainforest. The aim of the reserve is to protect the wildlife within and teach volunteers and locals about simple living, high thinking. Volunteers can learn and participate in permaculture, reforestation, vegetarian cuisine and chocolate making. There is never a dull momenti in Saraswati Ahimsa Vana.!
Welcome to Saraswati Ahimsa Vana… a hidden paradise in the Amazon Jungle that words cannot describe. We´re community followers of Vedic Principles starting up an organic farm and nature reserve to protect part of the Amazon rainforest and the animals within. Our goal is to teach our foreign visitors and Ecuadorian neighbours about simple living, high thinking.
We have 15 hectares of land in Malchingui (about 2 hours north of Quito). It is a beautiful place in the hills at the same altitude as Quito. On a clear day you can see Cotopaxi and Cayambe volcanoes. It is in a very quiet, peaceful area, but there is a small town nearby where there is Internet and a few small shops.
We live in Malchingi, 1 1/2 hours from Quito. We have 15 hectares of land and moved into what was an abandoned half built 8 roomed house. We have composting dry toilets and solar heated showers (when there is sunshine!). At present we do not have electricity but we plan to use wind and solar power in the near future. Our aim is to be as sustainable as we can regarding food, all cultivation will be purely organic. We are currently planting trees and have just harvested our first vegetables. The climate is similar to Quito as we are at the same altitude.
